When to Sealcoat Your Asphalt

Timing matters with sealcoating. New asphalt should cure for at least 6 to 12 months before the first application. After that, most driveways and lots benefit from sealcoating every 2 to 4 years depending on traffic and exposure. They were thoughtul about the aesthetic decisions; their curves and margins were tidy.  Moreover, this job was quoted in '25 before Trump's war increased all input prices (especially oil).  Neverthless, Hunziker honored the pre-war quote with no fuss.  Further, the owner was on site throughout to ensure a great job.  All around, we are very satisfied with the experience.

They did a phenomenal job on our driveway last summer. Patient and understanding with removing some old errant tree roots left behind. It drains perfectly. I was amazed they knocked it out in one day.

Courteous, professional and fairly priced.

How long do I need to stay off my driveway after sealcoating?

We recommend keeping vehicles off a freshly sealed driveway for at least 24 to 48 hours. Foot traffic should be limited for the first several hours. Drying time varies with temperature and humidity, so we'll give you a more specific window on the day of your job.

Can you sealcoat in the fall?

Sealcoating requires temperatures to stay above 50°F during application and curing, which means fall timing matters in the Capital Region. We schedule sealcoating through the appropriate season and will let you know if conditions aren't right for a quality application.

Will sealcoating fill in the cracks on my driveway?

Sealcoating is a surface protectant, not a crack filler. For best results, cracks should be addressed first and then sealed over. We handle crack filling as part of our sealcoating prep so you get the most out of every application.
