Professional Asphalt Milling Services

Asphalt milling — also called cold planing — is the process of grinding down and removing the top layer of an existing asphalt surface before repaving. It’s a critical step when existing pavement has deteriorated but the base is still structurally sound, and it allows for a fresh asphalt overlay without raising the grade of the surface. At J. They were thoughtul about the aesthetic decisions; their curves and margins were tidy.  Moreover, this job was quoted in '25 before Trump's war increased all input prices (especially oil).  Neverthless, Hunziker honored the pre-war quote with no fuss.  Further, the owner was on site throughout to ensure a great job.  All around, we are very satisfied with the experience.

They did a phenomenal job on our driveway last summer. Patient and understanding with removing some old errant tree roots left behind. It drains perfectly. I was amazed they knocked it out in one day.

Courteous, professional and fairly priced.

Do I need milling before resurfacing, or can you just pave over the existing surface?

It depends on the condition and grade of the current surface. If there are height restrictions at garage doors, drainage inlets, or curb lines, milling first keeps the final grade correct. We'll assess the existing pavement and let you know whether milling is necessary or if a direct overlay is the right approach.

What happens to the milled asphalt material?

Milled asphalt is a recyclable material and is typically hauled off and reused in new asphalt production. We handle removal and disposal as part of the milling process so the site is ready for the next phase of work.

Can you mill just part of a parking lot or driveway?

Yes. Partial milling is common when only certain sections of a surface have deteriorated while the rest remains in good condition. We can target specific areas to keep costs down while still addressing the damage properly.
